ADD/ADHD has been diagnosed with
increasing
frequency over the last 15 years. Currently, one
child in every six to eight is said to be affected with ADD or
ADHD. Children are diagnosed by observation, questionnaire, or
through performance testing. The listed symptoms for Sensory
Integration Disorder, some visual problems, allergies, and
many toxic agents meet the criteria for ADD/ADHD according to
the most commonly used questionnaire. What is more frightening
is that any normal child under the age of 7 years, using the
developmental criteria established by the Gesell Institute,
will also meet all the requirements to be diagnosed with
ADD/ADHD. ALL of these testing methods provide nothing but a
symptomatic description, and offer nothing about the CAUSE of
these symptoms. Then, these children are usually placed on
dangerous, mind-altering, and often- addictive medications
meant to control their symptoms. This is done in spite of the
fact that studies have shown that these medications produce no
long-term benefits. Further, we have no idea what the
consequences of using these medications are for the
development of the brain and other organs in growing
children.
There is excellent evidence to show the
danger of some of the common medications prescribed for
ADD/ADHD. Ritalin, one of the most frequently prescribed
drugs, is a stimulant much like cocaine and amphetamine.
Research has demonstrated that it actually has a more potent
effect on the brain than cocaine. Another frequently used drug
includes the SSRI type antidepressants. These drugs have never
been tested on children. Currently, England and Ireland have
banned them for use in anyone under the age of 18. The ban
occurred because these drugs have been linked to greatly
increased levels of violence and suicide. Drugs originally
formulated to treat adults suffering from schizophrenia,
bi-polar disorder, and other mental illnesses are now being
prescribed for children to manage the symptoms of ADD/ADHD.
None of these have been tested to determine the long-term
effects on a developing child, and all have major side
effects.
There are several major causes of
ADD/ADHD, and people suffering from the symptoms of ADD/ADHD
should be tested to determine what is causing their individual
symptoms. Some common causes include allergy, toxic exposures
(heavy metals, chemicals, etc.), and metabolic disruptions
(nutritional imbalances, thyroid problems, sleep disorders,
blood sugar instability, etc.). The above abnormal factors are
true causes of ADD/ADHD, and they can be treated with safe,
effective methods. For instance, studies have shown good
responses with multi-vitamin/mineral products, magnesium,
L-carnitine, essential fatty acids, allergy therapy, dietary
changes, etc.
There is no "one size fits all"
treatment plan for people suffering from ADD/ADHD. Each
individual's treatment is based upon intense diagnostic
testing. Some of the most effective therapies and methods of
analysis include the Tissue Mineral Analysis, Neural Therapy,
and allergy testing followed by treatment with EPD. These
methods can find and treat the true causes of the problem,
resulting in a healthier, more capable child.
